Service Dog Training

TRAINING INCLUDES

COMMITMENT

Training a Service Dog takes years of commitment. At Pet Peeves we feel the bond with your service dog is so important therefore the owner will be doing most of training. We will give you the knowledge and tools you will need, but most of the training will be done by you. Training a Service Dog is not an easy thing to do. Make sure you have the time and motivation to put in the work.

DOG SELECTION

Most dogs are not cut out to be a Service Dog. If you are looking to start Service Dog training please let us help select the right dog for you.Every prospect must go through an evaluation to determine if it has what it takes to be a Service Dog. Contact us to help you select a dog.

ENGAGEMENT

Engagement is the foundation of our training, Service Dog or not. Engagement builds the relationship you have with your dog. A Service Dog should be focused on its handler, not its environment.

AMERICANS WITH DISABILITIES ACT

We will provide you with all the information and laws that apply to Service Dogs from the ADA. Under the Americans with Disabilities Act, an individual with a disability is entitled to a Service Dog that is specifically trained for their disability.

TASKS

Per the ADA, a Service Dog must be task trained for the handlers disabilities to be considered a Service Dog. A task is anything that a Service Dog does to help with the handlers disabilities. For example, hitting a handicap button, picking something up off the floor, reminder for education, etc.
